Model Review: Princess F55

TWW News

When stepping aboard the Princess F55, you immediately sense the seamless integration of luxury and practicality. Unveiled at the Cannes Boat Show, this 55-foot motor yacht is a stunning example of Princess Yachts’ commitment to superior craftsmanship, elegant design, and smart space utilization. For seasoned cruisers and new owners alike, the F55 offers everything a modern yachting family or couple could ask for.

The Princess F55 balances impressive performance with refined comfort. From its spacious flybridge to the luxurious owner’s suite, this yacht exudes a quiet confidence that makes it one of the top choices in its size range. Whether you’re cruising along the French Riviera or navigating tighter marinas in the UK, this vessel is designed to deliver.

Cockpit and Galley: A Cohesive Social Hub

Boarding the yacht via the hi-low platform, you’re greeted by a cockpit shaded by the flybridge overhang. The space is thoughtfully designed with stylish stainless-steel accents that add a touch of sophistication. A standout feature here is the galley-aft layout, which connects directly to the cockpit through a lift-up window. This design brilliantly merges indoor and outdoor spaces, ideal for entertaining guests.

The galley itself is well-equipped with top-tier amenities. It includes electric cooking appliances, a large fridge-freezer, a dishwasher, an ice maker, and a second fridge on the opposite side. All of this ensures that provisioning and meal prep remain effortless during extended stays on the water.

Saloon and Helm: Expansive Views and Seamless Control

Walking forward into the saloon, you find wide, comfortable steps and panoramic windows that flood the interior with natural light. The lounge area is arranged around a folding table that transforms easily from a coffee table to a full dining setup. The elevated seating also enhances your views across the water, making it a beautiful space for relaxation or entertainment.

The main helm station features twin seats and a fully digital glass bridge. This includes customizable displays for radar, AIS, and chart plotting. Positioned at the Cannes Boat Show, the AIS was even showcasing an array of superyachts anchored nearby—a testament to the tech-savvy design of the helm.

Accommodations: Smart Layouts with Ample Storage

Descending the well-proportioned staircase brings you to the guest accommodations. At the bow lies the VIP guest cabin, a generously sized suite complete with ample storage, including under-bed drawers, integrated cabinetry, and a large wardrobe. This cabin also enjoys direct access to a beautifully finished en-suite, which doubles as a day head—accessible from the hallway for convenience.

Adjacent to the VIP is the third cabin. Although smaller, it is impressively spacious for a 55-foot yacht. It comfortably sleeps two and includes ample wardrobe and under-bed storage, making it ideal for children or additional guests.

Further aft, the owner’s suite showcases the yacht’s true potential. Spanning the full beam of the boat, this stateroom delivers a boutique hotel experience. It features a double wardrobe, elegant feature paneling behind the bed, and a cozy breakfast nook. Naturally, the owner’s suite includes its own private en-suite with a separate shower, reflecting the high-quality standards Princess Yachts is known for.

Flybridge: The Ultimate Outdoor Experience

Accessed via a portside staircase, the flybridge is a highlight of the Princess F55. Fitted with teak decks and protected by a bimini top, it offers shade and comfort in equal measure—crucial for Mediterranean cruising. The aft section features a wraparound seating area with a fold-out dining table, perfect for meals with a view.

Further forward, a well-equipped bar includes a sink, barbecue, and potential space for an ice maker. The secondary helm mirrors the main helm’s glass bridge layout and includes an elevated standing position for better visibility during docking or navigating tight spaces.

Another seating area is located toward the bow of the flybridge. It features deep cushions and backrests, allowing this space to transform into a large sunpad. Conveniently, a built-in fridge keeps refreshments close at hand, turning this entire deck into an entertainer’s dream.

Bow Lounge and Side Decks: Safety and Style Combined

Moving along the wide and secure side decks, you’ll find high guardrails and smooth transitions, making it safe to traverse even while underway. At the bow, there’s a well-designed seating and sunbathing area. The sunpads here can be adjusted for lounging or lying flat, maximizing flexibility.

This area also features an emergency escape hatch from the forward cabin below, underscoring the yacht’s focus on both comfort and safety. It’s small touches like these that differentiate Princess from other shipyards in the mid-size luxury yacht category.

Crew Cabin and Engine Room: Functional and Refined

Though the F55 is often owner-operated, Princess includes a modest but functional crew cabin. Located aft and accessed separately, it features full standing headroom, a window for natural light, ventilation, and a private wet room with shower and toilet. It’s ideal not only for crew but also as a private space for a teenager or occasional guest.

Directly ahead is the engine compartment. Powered by twin Volvo Penta D13-800 engines on straight shaft drives, the F55 delivers both reliable power and smooth cruising. The space includes soundproofing, firefighting systems, easily accessible fuel filters, and what appears to be a watermaker. While we couldn’t linger due to the boat show’s opening rush, the layout was tidy and well-organized—hallmarks of Princess engineering.

Performance and Practicality: Built for Exploration

The Princess F55 isn’t just about good looks. With the muscle of the twin D13s, it delivers powerful yet refined performance. The hull is optimized for stability and efficiency, making it suitable for long-range cruising across the Med or shorter coastal hops around the UK. Her manageable size allows for marina access without sacrificing onboard living space, a sweet spot for families or cruising couples.

Her air conditioning system, generous fuel and water capacities, and extensive storage solutions mean she can handle longer voyages without compromise. That balance between range and comfort is what makes this yacht such a versatile choice.

Final Thoughts: A Premier 55-Foot Yacht for Modern Cruisers

The Princess F55 represents everything discerning yacht owners look for in a mid-sized luxury motor yacht. She’s stylish without being flashy, luxurious without compromising on practicality, and innovative without sacrificing familiarity. Every element—from the cleverly designed galley to the expansive flybridge—has been crafted to elevate the experience of life on the water.

For families looking for a long-range cruiser, couples planning a Mediterranean escape, or anyone seeking the ideal balance of comfort and capability, the F55 checks all the boxes. Princess Yachts continues to raise the bar in this segment, and the F55 is a perfect embodiment of that legacy.
