Model Review: Monte Carlo Yachts MCY 96

The Monte Carlo Yachts MCY 96 is a yacht that instantly commands attention. With Italian flair, elegant design, and clever engineering, this 29.5-meter yacht brings a lot more to the table than first meets the eye. Built in 2018 and refitted in 2021, this yacht remains a top-tier option for owners looking to strike a balance between timeless luxury and innovative layout.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the MCY 96 is its classification. Despite being nearly 30 meters in length, it’s registered under the 24-meter category. This seemingly small detail has significant implications—it helps minimize crew requirements and simplifies certain regulatory obligations. For many owners, that’s a practical advantage without sacrificing scale or luxury.

A Welcoming Aft and Open Saloon Concept

Stepping aboard, the first thing that strikes you is the spacious aft cockpit. A large dining table sits comfortably under the flybridge overhang, providing generous shade and shelter. This area seamlessly transitions into the main saloon, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living.

The interior decor leans toward light tones and soft textures, creating a calm, welcoming atmosphere. Expansive windows and sliding doors flank both sides, allowing for natural ventilation and panoramic views. Even the bulwarks feature teak-covered drop-down balconies that extend the usable deck space dramatically when at anchor.

Inside, thoughtful touches abound. There’s a wine cooler and well-placed storage cabinetry along one side of the saloon. One cabinet hides a TV that rises at the touch of a button—ideal for casual evenings or entertaining guests.

Main Deck Owner’s Cabin with Full-View Access

The main deck owner’s suite is a real highlight. It enjoys a forward position with oversized windows on both sides, enhanced by cutaway bulwarks that bring the outside in. These glass panels allow uninterrupted views across the water, making the cabin feel even more expansive.

Inside the suite, you’ll find a dedicated dressing area and a substantial walk-in wardrobe. There’s also a cozy sitting nook and an elegant ensuite bathroom. The bathroom features twin sinks, a separate toilet and bidet, and a full-size rainfall shower. Every inch reflects the craftsmanship expected from a Monte Carlo yacht.

Lower Deck: Spacious VIP and Guest Cabins

Down on the lower deck, the MCY 96 offers a five-cabin layout. Two full-beam VIP cabins occupy the aft section. Thanks to the yacht’s unique engine room configuration, these cabins are significantly larger than expected on a yacht of this size.

Each VIP suite includes large wardrobes, plenty of storage, and beautiful circular Monte Carlo-style hull windows. Ensuite bathrooms are finished with twin sinks and rainfall showers, echoing the main suite’s design language.

Forward of the VIP cabins, there are two additional guest cabins. These can be configured with twin beds or converted into doubles. One even includes a Pullman berth, bringing the yacht’s sleeping capacity up to 11. Each cabin is fully equipped with AV controls, storage, and ensuite facilities.

Crew Quarters: Functionality Meets Comfort

The crew quarters are accessible from a side deck entrance and located forward. There’s a well-appointed galley with fridges, freezers, and dishwashers, along with a laundry area. A small crew mess provides space for downtime.

There are three crew cabins in total. The captain has a private ensuite, while two additional cabins offer bunk arrangements. There’s also an emergency exit that connects the crew area to the forward deck—an important safety feature.

Bridge and Technology Integration

The bridge on the MCY 96 is an impressive command center. Outfitted with Boning navigation and ship management displays, it delivers comprehensive control at a glance. Bow and stern thruster controls, engine throttles, and communication systems are all laid out intuitively.

A clever feature here is the adjustable leaning post, which transforms into a seat when needed. Behind the helm, additional ship systems are neatly arranged, keeping operations streamlined and efficient.

Flybridge: One of the Largest in Class

The flybridge is arguably the standout feature of this yacht. It’s enormous, offering various zones for dining, lounging, and sunbathing. At the aft end, there’s a large jacuzzi—perfect for relaxing with panoramic views. Forward, an alfresco dining area and an L-shaped sofa make entertaining easy.

A fully equipped wet bar includes a fridge, ice maker, sink, and a concealed teppanyaki grill. The flybridge helm has full navigation repeaters, engine controls, and steering, while an auxiliary control station on the starboard side helps with docking and maneuvering.

Above, a sliding roof allows you to open or close the space as desired. Whether you want sun or shade, the setup adapts easily to suit the mood.

Foredeck Lounge: A Private Escape

At the bow, a spacious foredeck lounge offers a more private outdoor space. This area features sunpads and additional seating beneath a bimini, ideal for enjoying quiet moments while moored stern-to.

It’s also one of the best spots to appreciate the clean lines of the yacht’s design. Elevated safety bulwarks, clever side access points, and integrated storage all demonstrate Monte Carlo Yachts’ attention to detail.

Engineering: Smart Layout for Maximum Volume

The engine room of the MCY 96 is accessed via the transom. Monte Carlo Yachts took a different approach to propulsion on this model. Instead of placing the engines amidships, they’re positioned far aft and connected via V-drives. This layout frees up interior volume for accommodation, particularly the generous VIP cabins.

The yacht is powered by twin MTU V16 M86 engines, delivering 2,200 horsepower each. That allows for a top speed of 24 knots. But where this yacht truly shines is in range—thanks to its optional long-range fuel tanks, it holds 18,000 liters of fuel, enabling a cruising range of up to 1,800 nautical miles. That’s impressive for a planing yacht in this class.

Additional technical highlights include a fuel polishing system, two generators, and a large water maker. Safety features like multiple escape routes and well-marked service hatches enhance the yacht’s bluewater credentials.

Tender Garage and Hydraulic Platform

At the stern, the MCY 96 features a generous garage capable of storing a 4.45-meter tender. It’s accessed via the hydraulic swim platform, which also acts as a launch system. When not used for the tender, the garage serves as excellent storage for watersports gear and other essentials.

The platform itself is wide and deep, doubling as a beach club when at anchor. Together, this system makes water access smooth and stylish.

Final Thoughts: Italian Elegance Meets Ocean Capability

The Monte Carlo Yachts MCY 96 is a true blend of style, innovation, and function. It offers the feel and finish of a much larger superyacht but retains the practical advantages of a sub-24-meter classification. From its impressive range and spacious accommodation to its elegant flybridge and thoughtful engineering, this yacht checks all the boxes for a modern owner.

Whether you’re seeking a family cruiser, a charter-ready vessel, or a long-range platform for adventure, the MCY 96 delivers. It’s clear that Monte Carlo Yachts focused not just on beauty, but on creating a yacht that’s built to go the distance—comfortably and in style.
