Model Review: Horizon FD75 Skyline

TWW News

The Horizon FD75 Skyline is a marvel of modern yacht design, blending spaciousness, customization, and innovative engineering into a sleek 75-foot package. At first glance, you may assume you’re looking at a much larger vessel. That illusion of grandeur is no accident. Horizon has mastered the art of maximizing volume, and the FD75 proves it in every corner.

Buyers in the market for a semi-custom luxury yacht often seek comfort, flexibility, and performance. The Horizon FD75 delivers all three with finesse. This yacht is tailor-made for owner-operators, offering flexible crew accommodations and intuitive design choices that cater to both independent cruisers and those who prefer professional assistance. Let’s explore the FD75 in full detail.

Striking Exterior and Deck Design

From the stern, the FD75 makes a strong impression. A high-low swim platform supports tender storage, and thanks to a secondary space on the flybridge, owners can carry two watercrafts. Below the swim platform lies a separate entrance to the crew quarters and engine room, ensuring safety and privacy during voyages.

The cockpit provides a shaded area for dining or lounging, with a height-adjustable table that transforms from a coffee table into a full dining setup. Wide overhangs create protection from the sun, while asymmetrical decks allow for a wider saloon without sacrificing bow access. One side features a full guest walkway; the other houses service and crew routes.

Expansive Saloon and Galley Area

Step through the large sliding doors, and you’re greeted by a voluminous saloon. Horizon’s decision to push the beam of the boat fully outward makes the interior feel almost palatial. Huge hull windows draw in natural light, enhancing the open atmosphere.

Though the model in the video had just arrived and lacked a dining table, the space is clearly allocated for one. The open galley, designed for seamless entertaining, lets hosts and guests remain connected. For owner-operators, this layout eliminates the feeling of being tucked away in a traditional galley. Guests and hosts mingle easily.

A clever split-level layout reveals two staircases to the lower deck. One leads to the forward master suite, the other to the guest cabins and an optional second owner’s suite.

Dual Owner Cabins and Guest Accommodations

The forward suite stands alone, accessed via a private staircase. With abundant wardrobe space, a dressing table, and an en-suite bathroom with twin basins and a sizable shower, this could easily serve as the primary owner’s cabin.

Yet amidships, another expansive stateroom challenges for that title. It’s slightly larger and includes a private en-suite. Horizon seems to have designed this yacht with co-ownership in mind. Two couples could easily share this vessel, each with equal, luxurious accommodations.

Two additional guest cabins round out the layout. One offers convertible twin beds on tracks, easily transforming into a double. The other has fixed singles but boasts an enormous walk-in storage space extending into the bow. Both cabins share a well-appointed day head with a walk-in shower.

Flybridge: The Skyline Experience

Moving topside, the FD75 features a semi-enclosed flybridge. Horizon provides a range of configurations here, from open-deck options to a fully enclosed sky lounge. The model in question opts for an open-backed, weather-protected enclosure that houses a second helm station.

This helm mirrors the lower station and includes multifunction displays, engine instrumentation, and thruster controls. Air conditioning vents hint at the possibility of enclosing this space further for use in varying climates.

A large bar with a fridge, sink, and ice maker makes entertaining effortless. There’s also a spacious dining area with foldable chairs, offering flexibility for both intimate gatherings and larger dinners.

Behind this, you’ll find the second tender storage zone, complete with a crane capable of handling up to 1,500 pounds. For added convenience, a freezer sits nearby—ideal for storing freshly caught fish without intruding on the main interior space.

Even more impressively, there’s a flybridge day head—a rarity on yachts under 80 feet. This thoughtful inclusion highlights Horizon’s attention to detail and commitment to guest comfort.

Bow Lounge and Relaxation Spaces

The forward deck continues the theme of smart design. The bow area transforms into either a vast sun pad or a seating area, thanks to adjustable backrests. Poles and hooks are in place for a Bimini shade, creating a serene lounging space even under a hot sun.

Hidden beneath the deck lies access to that cavernous bow storage mentioned earlier. It’s perfect for inflatables, paddleboards, or awkward luggage.

Crew Quarters and Engine Room Access

Although many owners may not opt for crew, Horizon ensures those who do are well-supported. The aft crew space includes a two-berth cabin and a separate bathroom. With access both from the stern and internally, it’s versatile and private.

Alternatively, this area works well as a changing room or overflow guest accommodation during family trips.

The engine room houses twin Caterpillar C18 engines, each producing 1,136 horsepower. These power the FD75 to over 20 knots at top speed, with a fast cruising speed of 17 knots. For long passages, throttling back to 10 knots yields a range of over 1,000 nautical miles. Twin generators, a watermaker, and sea exchangers round out a well-equipped technical space.

Performance and Handling

While exact handling data was not covered in the video, Horizon yachts have a strong reputation for stability and performance. The FD75’s wide beam and solid construction contribute to a comfortable ride, even in choppier seas. Whether owner-operated or captained, this yacht promises smooth handling and intuitive control.

The split helm setup gives captains flexibility. The interior helm station sits in a mid-level position, raised slightly for better visibility. The flybridge helm, however, will likely be the favored spot for daytime cruising thanks to the 360-degree views and open-air appeal.

Customization and Ownership Flexibility

As a semi-custom yacht, the FD75 Skyline is highly adaptable. Owners can choose their layouts, specify finishes, and determine how enclosed or open certain areas should be. Horizon works closely with clients to tailor each yacht to their specific lifestyle needs.

This versatility is key for buyers who want a yacht that evolves with their cruising style. Whether you cruise with family, host friends, or co-own the yacht, the FD75 supports diverse usage scenarios without compromise.

Final Thoughts

The Horizon FD75 Skyline isn’t just a 75-foot yacht—it feels like so much more. Through intelligent layout planning and a focus on open, flexible spaces, Horizon has crafted a vessel that caters to luxury-minded owners who value both independence and hospitality.

With dual owner cabins, expansive entertaining zones, and clever touches like the flybridge day head and voluminous storage, the FD75 stands apart in its class. Add in strong engine performance and customization potential, and it’s easy to see why this yacht commands attention.

Whether you’re a seasoned yachtsman or stepping into ownership for the first time, the FD75 Skyline offers a compelling blend of innovation and elegance. It’s proof that big things really can come in “smaller” packages—especially when Horizon Yachts is behind the design.
