Make the best of your Greenland yacht trip with our Kangerlussuaq to Ilulissat yacht charter itinerary.
Day 1

Kangerlussuaq

Once a Cold War U.S. Air Force base until 1992, Kangerlussuaq is now a wildlife haven and the sole direct access point to Greenland’s ice sheet. Greenland’s national coat of arms features the white polar bear, symbolizing a vast country rich in unique wildlife, including narwhals, walruses, and over 50 bird species. Seals are plentiful, and small mammals such as Arctic foxes, hares, lemmings, and ermine inhabit the region. Take a few hours to experience a unique Musk Ox safari in a small 5-seater plane, where you can witness large herds of these majestic animals, a blend of sheep and ox, grazing freely in the valleys.
Day 2

Kangerlussuaq

The awe-inspiring Ice Sheet is just a 16-mile mountain biking journey away, or a challenging hike for the more adventurous. Here, you can walk on the ice cap and marvel at the breathtaking “moulins” (ice tunnels) along the edge. Alternatively, enjoy a leisurely 4×4 vehicle tour, meandering along narrow mountain tracks through an Arctic desert, alongside rivers, through ancient glacier valleys, and over mountains to the Inland Ice Cap. The views of the stunning Arctic landscape are unparalleled!
Day 3

Aasiaat

Located at the mouth of Disko Bay, Aasiaat is the perfect place for kayaking with champion kayaker Mikael Jacobsen. Fluent in English and intimately familiar with the area, Mikael offers custom trips in his hand-built Greenlandic kayaks. During the summer, Greenlandic waters are frequented by fin whales, humpback whales, minke whales, bowhead whales, blue whales, and sperm whales. Watch them breaching or playfully lobtailing for hours. Be sure to leave time for an “evening” cruise or to relax on the yacht’s sun deck to experience the spectacular Midnight Sun, as the sun does not set here from the end of May to the end of July.
Day 4

Qeqertarsuaq

Qeqertarsuaq, located on Disko Island, boasts a rich whaling heritage and is a prime spot for whale watching in the summer. The Lyngmark Glacier, the sole location in Greenland for summer dog sledding, offers an unforgettable experience. The journey to the glacier is best enjoyed in the evening under the midnight sun, and the few hours it takes to hike to the top are well worth the effort.
Day 5

Ilulissat

The fishing village of Ilulissat is perched at the edge of a 40 km (25 mile) ice fjord, which produces 20 million tonnes of ice daily. Cruise among the blue-streaked icebergs that drift in the bay and venture up to the ice fjords for an unforgettable experience—perhaps even witnessing a spectacular glacier calving. The Jakobshavn Icefjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2004, stretches 60 km (37 miles) and features icebergs as large as Manhattan. It is considered one of the most beautiful places in Greenland. For the adventure of a lifetime, take a helicopter ride to the ice cap and the ablation zone. No words or photos can truly capture this unique experience!
