This circular itinerary offers a perfect balance of ancient ruins, turquoise anchorages, charming harbors, and authentic Cretan hospitality. From the historic harbors of the north to the wild beauty of the southern coast, each stop reveals a different face of Crete — from Minoan palaces and Venetian fortresses to hidden beaches and remote fishing villages. Whether you’re sailing by catamaran or motor yacht, this 7-day cruise delivers a richly layered experience of the Mediterranean.

Day 1

Heraklion

Begin your voyage in Heraklion, Crete’s bustling capital and a vibrant blend of old and new. Visit the Palace of Knossos, the ancient seat of Minoan civilization, and tour the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, home to one of the most important prehistoric collections in Europe. In the evening, stroll the historic Venetian port, enjoy fresh seafood at a waterfront taverna, and overnight in the city marina.
Day 2

Agios Nikolaos

Sail eastward to the charming town of Agios Nikolaos, set along the beautiful Mirabello Bay. Known for its lakefront setting and boutique atmosphere, it’s a great place to relax and explore. Spend the day walking around Lake Voulismeni, browsing artisan shops, or taking a short excursion to the nearby ancient site of Lato. Dine in a cliffside restaurant with views of the bay and settle into a quiet evening at the local marina.

Day 3

Sitia

Continue northeast to Sitia, a less-touristed gem with a laid-back vibe. This port town is perfect for slow travel, offering access to golden beaches, olive groves, and rustic tavernas. Explore the Kazarma Fortress, walk along the seaside promenade, or venture inland to visit Toplou Monastery, known for its wine and olive oil. Enjoy a traditional Cretan dinner in the old harbor before a restful night aboard.
Day 4

Zakros

Sail south to Zakros, anchoring near Kato Zakros, one of Crete’s quietest and most atmospheric spots. This small bay offers a peaceful anchorage with access to the Minoan Palace of Zakros, the fourth-largest on the island. Hike the Zakros Gorge, also known as the “Gorge of the Dead,” or simply relax with a swim in the crystal-clear waters. Dinner can be enjoyed at a beachfront taverna serving locally caught fish.
Day 5

Ierapetra

Round the southeast tip of Crete and head to Ierapetra, the southernmost city in Europe. Known for its mild climate and long beaches, Ierapetra is also steeped in history. Visit the Ottoman Fortress, walk the lively old town, or take an afternoon excursion to Chrissi Island, famous for its white sand and cedar forest. Enjoy a lively evening in town with music, mezze, and ouzo.
Day 6

Loutro

Sail west along the rugged south coast to Loutro, a tiny, car-free village accessible only by boat. With its whitewashed buildings, turquoise bay, and laid-back charm, Loutro feels like a hidden oasis. Spend the day swimming, kayaking, or hiking to nearby Sweetwater Beach or the Aradena Gorge. Watch the sunset from your mooring and enjoy dinner in one of the village’s family-run tavernas.
Day 7

Chania

Your final leg takes you to Chania, one of Crete’s most beautiful cities. Dock in the Venetian harbor and wander through its old town, filled with colorful buildings, leather markets, and historical sites like the Firka Fortress and the Maritime Museum. Dine in style at a harbor-view restaurant and toast to a week well spent.
