James Willmott

James was brought up in the beautiful and scenic Garden of England; Kent. Inspired by his parents and grandparents love of sailing, he himself was sailing from a young age. Competing in Optimists (for about 5 minutes) before switching to Toppers and later RS800’s, Lightnings & GP14’s. Having left university, James spent some time working in Nigeria for the foreign office and improving his golf skills. Upon returning to the UK, his childhood passion led him to complete his first yacht delivery and starting his career in yachting. Now with over 15 years’ experience in the charter yachting sector as Captain, Officer & Engineer on Power and Sail vessels from 9m to 70 meters. His first position was as a Flotilla Engineer for a fleet of 12 small sailing yachts and most recently as Captain of a 65m+ Motor Yacht. During this period James has been involved in several new build projects and major refits, spending considerable time at several of the most well-known shipyards. James has completed 18 transatlantic crossings and sailed pretty much all the Mediterranean, Carribbean, Bahamas, UK and salty waters in between. He was also fortunate enough to work on some of the most beautiful Hoek Modern Classic sailing yachts. In addition to on board service, James has held various shore-based positions including a stint managing the UK cadet training program for one of the world’s largest container shipping companies. With a young family in tow, James has settled back in Kent and brings this wealth of on-board experience to the TWW Yacht Management division. Client-orientated and comfortable conversing with captains, owners, brokers and alike, James oversees the day to day running of our managed vessels and providing the vital link between owner and yacht. He ensures our vessels are run safely and efficiently to meet and exceed owner expectations whilst also providing the valuable shore side support that Captains and Crew require to run a successful yacht program. His experience on board and ashore allows James to view issues from both owner, crew and a management perspective and find practical solutions in line with owners wishes that are also implementable on board. When not at the office or on the water James can often be found in the French Alps offering his encyclopedic knowledge of the Trois Vallee’s Domaine Skiable to either friends or lost skiers alike.
